ZINGER CUSTOMS AUTO RESTORATION GUIDE LINES.

 Note:  Paint work is not all equal.  The amount of sanding and polishing after the paint job can greatly increase the cost.  Therefore, in each stage, a choice of factory style finish or show quality finish must be decided before any paint work begins.

 

Terms

“Good Condition” = as seen by Zinger Customs upon a comprehensive inspection.  (Sometimes changes as work proceeds)

“Surface Rust” = Rust that can be cleaned up and fixed without cutting and welding.

“ Minor Rust” = Rust needing only small patch panels welded in.

“ Major Rust” =  Rust needing entire panel replacement (quarter panels, rocker panels)

“Minor Body Damage” = Small dents and dings in a small amount over a large area.

“Major Body Damage” = Collision damage, many dents or dings in one area requiring panel removal to do metal work.

“Minor components”= wiring and connectors overflow bottles etc. easily removable bolt on parts.

STAGE 1:  Repaint exterior of automobile without removal of body panels.  Does not include under hood and under trunk lid and inside of doors and jams or removal of paint to bare metal.  Includes fixing “minor body damage” and “surface rust”.  Rust on inside of panels and “major body” damage will not be able to be addressed with this stage.  Interior is not removed.  A basic refresher for a car that is already in “good condition”.

 

STAGE 2:  Repaint exterior of automobile, involving removal of all removable body panels, chrome, trim and lights.  Repaint of under side of hood and trunk lid, doors and jams. Does not include removal of all old paint. Includes fixing all body damage and “minor rust”, sometimes requiring bolt on panel replacement. Weather strip and trim replaced as necessary. Interior is not removed.

 

STAGE 3:  Repaint exterior of automobile, involving removal of all removable body panels, chrome, trim and lights.  Repaint of under side of hood and trunk lid, doors and jams. Does not include removal of all old paint. Includes fixing all body damage and rust sometimes requiring bolt on panel replacement or welded in panel replacement. Weather strip and trim replaced as necessary. Interior is not removed. Also includes freshening up of engine compartment without removal of any components. 

 

STAGE 4:  Repaint exterior of automobile, involving removal of all removable body panels, chrome, trim and lights, interior (except dash and wiring), door glass and quarter glass if any.  Involves removal of old paint down to bare metal.  Repaint of under side of hood and trunk lid, doors and jams. Includes fixing all body damage and rust, sometimes requiring bolt on panel replacement or welded in panel replacement.  Weather strip and trim replaced as necessary. Interior is removed and all “minor” rust areas of undercarriage are addressed. All “minor components” on firewall and engine compartment are removed to facilitate painting of firewall and engine compartment. Components are replaced without being refinished.

 

STAGE 5:  Restoration of entire body of automobile, involving removal of all removable body panels, chrome, trim and lights, all interior components including headliner, dash and wiring, door glass and quarter glass windshield and back glass.  Involves removal of old paint down to bare metal.  Repaint of under side of hood and trunk lid, doors and jams. Includes fixing all body damage and rust, sometimes requiring bolt on panel replacement. Weather strip and trim replaced as necessary.  All rust areas of undercarriage are addressed including floor pan replacement.  All components on firewall and engine compartment are removed including engine to facilitate painting of firewall and engine compartment.  All removed components may be refinished at owners discretion.

 

STAGE 6:  Restoration of entire automobile, involving removal of body off the frame (if it has one) and all body panels, chrome, trim and lights, all interior components including headliner, dash and wiring, door glass and quarter glass windshield and back glass. All components on firewall and engine compartment are removed including engine to facilitate painting of firewall and engine compartment. All suspension removed.  Frame stripped and repaired. All suspension brake and fuel components, cleaned, refinished or replaced as necessary.  All rubber and metal fluid lines replaced.  All removed components refinished.  This means every inch of vehicle is restored like or better than new.

*Concourse restorations require consultation, research of specific vehicle, including build history, build sheet and proper markings. Extensive photographic documentation of all components as dismantled.  Proper markings (known) are reapplied in similar manor of original.  Decals, stamps etc, replaced.  All finishes will be as close to original as possible in finish and color, including bare metal, zinc, chrome, anodized, oxide, etc.   Also, factory equivalent workmanship is done.  This means parts are not over done unless specified to be better than factory in appearance.
